There’s no greater feeling than watching the snow fall outside on a winter night when you’re inside – all safe and warm. That is, of course, unless you’re not warm at all and in fact it feels colder inside than it does outside! In that case, it’s time to invest in a heater. There are plenty of heaters on the market and today we’re going to look at an infrared heater. Why infrared? These heaters are known for their safety and economy. So let’s take a look at this one from VonHaus.
A quick look
It has a cabinet-type design that weighs roughly 12 pounds. It’s not a big thing but it can generate up to 1500 watts – enough to heat all but the largest of large rooms. There are four unexposed infrared elements and a digital thermostat control with a timer. The display and control panel is on the front of the cabinet and there’s also a remote control.
Where can it be used?
A heater of this size and this power lends itself to a number of options. If you’re looking for a portable heater to follow you around, perhaps if you’re renovating a currently unheated house, or if you want to stay warm while you work in your workshop or studio, this is a great option due to its extremely light weight. In smaller rooms the thermostat will stop the heater from making the room uncomfortably warm.
In larger rooms, you can set this heater up somewhere more permanent. It isn’t particularly difficult to find an appropriate place due to its small size. A bookshelf will do.
What are its good points?
The temperature can be set from between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit, so you’ll never feel uncomfortable when using the VonHaus infrared heater. It’s quiet and it doesn’t give off any strange odors unlike some other heaters. It stacks up pretty well against other infrared heaters – you can see for yourself at http://www.home-improvement.guru/best-infrared-heaters/.
What are its bad points?
The design isn’t that pretty, but that seems to be quite common of most heaters in this category. In addition to this, the temperature display actually only shows the heater’s setting and not the actual temperature in the room. It leaves you trying to guess which setting will be appropriate. Not great if you’re expecting guests!
So what do you think overall?
In my opinion, it’s a pretty solid choice for a small portable heater. When using it as a more-or-less permanent fixture I would have preferred if it had a prettier display. If using it as a truly portable heater, I think the addition of a handle would have been nice, I like to make the most of the use of my hands!
Customers who bought this heater on Amazon also have a high opinion of it and currently give it a rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars. Hopefully this review will have helped you in making your choice. I look forward to hearing any feedback you may have!
